MyDiscBack ("we") runs a lost-and-found service for disc golf. Participating disc golf courses, pro shops, and clubs ("organizations") log the discs they find, and disc owners use our website and text messages to get their discs back. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your choices.
Information we collect
About disc owners
- What's written on a found disc: the name and phone number written on it, as entered by the organization that found it, along with the disc's brand, model, color, and photos of the disc.
- When you claim a disc: the phone number you verify, your choice (pick up, ship, or surrender), and, if you choose shipping, your name, mailing address, and optional email.
- Text messages: the messages we send you and the replies you send us (for example "1" or "STOP"), with the date, time, and delivery status.
About organization staff
- Name, email, phone number, organization, role, and login activity.
- Two-factor authentication settings. Authenticator secrets are stored encrypted, and recovery codes are stored scrambled.
About website visitors
- We count visits without tracking cookies or tracking scripts. Each visitor is counted using a scrambled code made from their internet address, browser, and the date. The code changes every day, and we don't store internet addresses.
- We use only the cookies the site needs to work: a security cookie for forms, a cookie that remembers light or dark mode, a session cookie while you're logged in or claiming a disc, and, if a staff member chooses "remember this browser", a 30-day two-factor cookie.
How we use information
- To return lost discs: letting the organization holding a disc see whose it may be, sending found-disc alerts, verifying claims, and arranging pickup or shipping.
- To send the text messages described in our SMS Terms.
- To run and protect the service: logins, two-factor authentication, an activity log of changes, preventing abuse, and counting message usage per organization.
We do not use your information for advertising, and we do not sell it.
What is shown publicly
- Our public lost-and-found lists show disc details, disc photos, the organization holding the disc, and the date it was entered. They do not show owners' names or phone numbers.
- When someone searches by name or phone number, matching results show only a hint so owners can recognize their disc: a first name and last initial, and the last two digits of the phone number.
- Disc photos may show whatever is written on the disc.
Who we share information with
- The organization holding your disc sees the disc's details, your claim, your choice, and, if you chose shipping, your shipping address.
- Service providers that help us run the service, only for that purpose: our text message provider (Twilio) to send and receive texts, and our email provider to send emails.
- When required by law, or to protect the safety of people or the service.
No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text message opt-in data and consent will not be shared with any third parties.
How long we keep information
- Disc records stay until the organization deletes them. Deleting a disc also deletes its photos.
- The activity log of changes is kept for 90 days. Visitor counts are kept for 90 days.
- Text message records are kept so organizations can be billed accurately for message usage.
- Nightly backups are kept for a limited number of days and then deleted.
Security
The website uses encrypted connections (HTTPS). Passwords are stored as one-way hashes, never in readable form. Staff accounts can use two-factor authentication, and it is required for administrators.
Your choices
- Texts: reply STOP to stop all texts, or 4 to tell us a disc isn't yours.
- Your information: to ask what we have about you, or to have it corrected or deleted, email support@mydiscback.org. Some records may be kept where the law requires.
Children
MyDiscBack is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.
Changes
We may update this policy. The date at the top shows the latest version.
